Re: Celebrating 20 years of Kankonian
That would be more than I managed in almost six years :DKhemehekis wrote: ↑27 Jan 2021 02:56 I want to have 75,000 words in Kankonian by the time it celebrates its twenty-fifth birthday this summer. To do that, I'll need to add 7,000 words between now and then.
Wish me luck!
Good luck

Re: CBB Conlang Relay XIII
Feel free to ask for help, I am known to not be good at documenting my language, unfortunately. Oh don't say that, this documentation of Jutean is excellent in my opinion. Thanks, there's a lot still missing on that page, though. And I wasn't sure if I'm explaining myself well there either [:S]

Documentation pitfalls
Hello everyone, sorry if this has been posted before, I'm not very familiar with the search function or the boards here so I don't know if I'm repeating a common question: What are some common pitfalls when documenting a conlang, especially its grammar? Something like common mistakes made, by beginn...

Re: Grammar invented for your conlang?
Jutean mixes a split-s alignment with Austronesian triggers, which apparently is unattested Verb classes: Ergative, Unergative, Transitive Verbs in Jutean are usually sorted into two (or three) categories, objectless (the more scientific term being unaccusative or unergative), and split (or ergativ...
Re: Jutean
Thanks for the comment! Sorry, I don't check this here often, so I didn't notice it earlier. What do you think is confusing about the script? I tried to make the glyphs distinct enough so they couldn't easily be mixed up, do you think they are still to similar? Other than that, it's largely a simple...

I think my phonology also has /ʋ/ rather than /v/ because I found it prettier and more interesting... so you are not the only one with arbitrary decisions :P

Re: Fate
Oops, that was actually the literal translation back from Jutean into English. Sorry! The original sentence was as follows:
Some say that time is cyclical and that history inevitably repeats. My will is my own. I won't bow to fate.

Re: Parts of speech
:deu: German grammarians used to have a lot of now weird-seeming native compounds for parts of speech, though nowadays they seem for the most part to not be used much anymore, with Latin terms preferred now. Sometimes they are used in primary/elementary schools, and some seem to have deliberately ma...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
A new translation Also thought a bit how to link the nominalized subclauses I use with the mainclauses, and how to prevent these from becoming too ambiguous. At first, I had no way to mark agent and patient in them, as I couldn't decide on a fixed word order. Now I repurposed a different prepositio...

On Reddit I came across a nice translation exercise today: "People sometimes think of time as a cycle, and believe in the need of history to repeat. (But) only I myself control my mind. Life shall not oppress me." Jutean : Tesoamio saini a doonide ehe oonide donakiovif, u homano laf tehiti...

Sao fenoi a ni un saanuvade / an saavade /sɐɑ fenɑi ɐ ni un sɐ:nuʋɐde | ɐn sɐ:ʋɐde/
Swim fish of life in.wilderness_gender ocean_depths-OBL / in.common_gender water-OBL
If it's coastal water, it could also be 'saanetavade', with rivers it would be 'tahoonavade'.
